With the new relationship between the US and Venezuela now in place, president Trump has a new (old) source of oil in case relations with a hostile neighbor take a turn for the worse. However, the worst thing that could happen would be export taxes on Alberta energy. This is the only thing that thug and marxist have that would have an effect on trade negotiations with the US that will happen this year. Alberta is far better of paying the 10% tariff rather than export taxes to ottawa. You can bet those fiends were thinking that was their ace in the hole. Now there is no wind in that sail so thug has be content with pouring out bottle of Gimli MB made Crown Royal.

Who do you think will be able to increase oil exports by 2 million barrels the quickest over the next 3 to 5 yrs?
The totally destroyed infrastructure recovering communists in VZ where some says the need $80 barrel to get any interest?
Or Canada that has no political will and basically can't get anything done due to regulatory and virtue signaling to anyone that might have any objection to developing Canada's abundant natural resource gift?
If things were anything close to normal that should not even be a question.
Canada is a joke and we should have taken the 51st State offer.
And I think Trump is mostly an idiot who is fixing some thing that should never have needed fixing.

Good point. Canada is just as uninvestible as Venezuela and maybe worse. Let’s all let that sink in for a bit.Originally posted by shtferbrains View PostWho wants to invest in a pipeline in Canada?
My bet is if USA guarantees to provide security, Venezuela, is the easier place to get anything built. And more and more oil will be flowing from Venezuela to USA and less and less from Canada to USA.
I guess we get the Liberal wish. Less reliance on the USA as our main oil customer. No market for the Canadian oil. 1929 Great Depression for Canada straight ahead thanks to a decade of Liberal economic destruction and Banker Carney who did a great job at standing up and handling Trump.
Our only hope to turn this thing around quick is for the USA to come and get Carney and put him in a New York jail too.

What a laugh from Small Time Thinker! "Canada is just as uninvestible as Venezuela and maybe worse" Huh?
Oil production in Alberta and Canada kept increasing after Harper! How did that happen without investment you fools? Trudeau even built a pipeline to the coast and some of you idiots still claim he killed the oil industry?
Canada's oil production has shown strong growth, setting new records, with production reaching an average of 5.13 million barrels per day (MMb/d) in 2024, up from 4.93 MMb/d in 2023, and continuing to rise in early 2025, largely driven by oil sands in Alberta, with significant contributions from Saskatchewan and Newfoundland & Labrador.
One military analysis said Venezuela has the mountains of Afghanistan and the jungles of Vietnam and we know what failures the US had in both cases against a highly motivated armed country. Several oil companies have said that Venezuela is uninvestible because long term security is not likely.

The facts are always kind of inconvenient?
The light part of the chart is current to 2024
The shaded part is speculation on future and meaningless.
In 2014 investment in Alberta Oilsands was $33.9 Billion.
Rapidly dropped to a low of $7.3 billion in 2020 from the $33.9 billion.
Recovered some after the TMX to $16.8 billion in 2024.
Not inflation adjusted. About 1/3 of pre Trudeau investment if adjusted.
The growth came from efficiencies and technology.
Unlike government spending, industry does get more efficient, just like ag has since 2014 even with hostile government.Last edited by shtferbrains; Jan 11, 2026, 12:33.
