Remember our first cell phones shoe box that needed charged every night for few mins you talked on them . Now a computer with camera that can be charged just buy sitting on the truck consul . once a week. I agree, ice vehicles are costly to operate and maintain, but until they have an electric truck or car that can travel 3 or 400 miles on one charge at - 30 I’ll pass. At some point in time technology might be able to make that happen.

In the meantime, semi-solid-state batteries are gaining traction. These batteries use a gel-like electrolyte that also promises improvements over traditional lithium-ion batteries. Chinese battery companies have established a firm lead in this space, with 83% of current or planned solid-state battery manufacturing capacity all concentrated in China, BNEF said ([url]https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2025-08-27/europe-needs-a-reset-to-retain-electric-vehicle-battery-relevance[/url]).
EVs with semi-solid-state batteries are already rolling out in China, albeit in small numbers. Customers can buy and drive them today, thanks to early adopters such as Nio and the state-backed SAIC Motors that invested in the tech early. In the West, Mercedes-Benz and BMW are testing solid-state batteries, and Stellantis is planning to begin trials next year.
Japanese and Korean automakers are also working on this tech, but they’ve been tight-lipped about their plans. In 2022, Nikkei ([url]https://asia.nikkei.com/business/technology/toyota-secures-huge-lead-in-solid-state-battery-patents[/url]) reported that Toyota held the highest number of solid-state battery patents, followed by Panasonic and Idemitsu.
In this list, we’re covering both semi-solid-state and all-solid-state batteries. Some of these EVs are already available in select markets, while others are planned to go on sale in the coming years. A few of them are demo vehicles, but we’re including them in the list anyway.

The plant, expected to cost $3.5 billion and begin production in 2026, would be the first to make these batteries in the US.
“This is a big deal,” said Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer in a press conference ([url]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mk7fAfscNd8[/url]) unveiling plans for the factory. Expanding battery options will allow Ford to “build more EVs faster, and ultimately make them more affordable,” said Bill Ford, Ford’s executive chair.
Also known as lithium ferrous phosphate (LFP) batteries, the type to be produced at the new plant are a lower-cost alternative to the nickel- and cobalt-containing batteries used in most electric vehicles in the US and Europe today. While the technology has grown in popularity in China, Ford’s factory, developed in partnership with the Chinese battery giant CATL, marks a milestone in the West. By cutting costs while also boosting charging speed and extending lifetime, LFP batteries could help expand EV options for drivers.
