That's an unreferenced social media post. We can't read it or verify its claims.
The Canadian Food Grains Bank supported by farmers also delivers millions in food aid to developing countries for famine relief.
According to the OECD Canadian farmers received over 5.88 billion USD ($8.2 billion CAD) in annual subsidies from 2022 -2024. This amounted to 8.2 percent of gross farm receipts. You can read about it in the most recent western producer.
So when are you guys going to admit taxpayers are supporting our farms and helping pay your bills?

Its sort of irrelevant chuck..
you dont always nees to stick up for carney.
At some point with a floundering economy and a verrrryyy large budget deficit incoming you could just leave climate change funding for other countries..... out.
I cant find this article you speak of
..in the western producer . But yes.. canadian farmers are definitely subsidized. Big time.
But again..the 2 have 0 to do with eachother. Like when my wife tells me i spend too much on sushi.....and i ask her how much she spends on amazon.
Why would canadian farm subsides have any effect on foreign climate policy? Why do we have foreign climate policy?

The farmer run Food Grains Bank gives food and aid away. That's not irrelevant.
Plus some of the funding they are complaining about is probably going to agricutural development and managing and mitigating climate change so they can produce more food.
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime"
Most Canadian farmers are far richer and well off than the vast majority of small farmers in the world. So when I hear them complain about a small amount of funding coming from Canada to improve poor people lives I think they are pretty self centered and short sighted.

No doubt wasting my breath on the selfish self centred who don't give a damn about anybody but themselves!

To be honest... i would rather see that ( if true) 470 million go toward..
childcre subsidies. Dental health for poor. I dunno. Anything in canada really.
You can call me selfish and self centred but i am currrently in the process of working with 2 of my local retailers this yr to have them cover the input cost...while i eat the farming costs. On 80 acres with all proceeds going to my LOCAL foodbank. Why? Bcuz the foodgrains bank is run by a bunchhhh of church organizations that are...... marrginallly not for profit ( lookup their inventory and how many buildings they own with their " not for profit" thrift shops and if they pay their higher ups)
Plus... wasnt it like.. 5 yrs ago that all the churches and hutts had to start paying taxes?
. I support local. Like our politicians should AT THIS JUNCTURE.
You running a surplus? Great. Give some away.
You wanna run an extra 450 mill while throwing out a 70 ish billion deficit ( and no real plan to balance the books in the future)...
Now thats just bad policy. ....
And again. Yes. We all know canadian farmers are subsidized. You farm. You get the same subsidies.
dont preach at us from your broken soap box while wearing jesus sandals and act like youre him.
Its not that foreign policy spending on climate change is inherently bad.. its that the current timing and optics of doing so are... obtuse at best.
How comE they spend 470 million on " end use oil processing" for canola oil.... and then spend that exact same amount on foreign climate change?
Imagine.
You, chuck, buy your fert for your farm for 250 k. Now, please, match that by sending 250 k to nigeria for climate change ( with probably 0 oversight).
go ahead. all the while your farm is expecting to make NET NEGATiVE $ this upcoming year. Go ahead. Ill wait.
And wait.
And wait.
The amount of homelessness.. inflation...etc etc problems that we have in ( insert province here) and u want to send that sort of $ out the door? Tough sell man... real tough.
i would very honestly ( and im.sure alot of people here would be too) be a- ok with that 470 million being re allocated to solve drinking water issues on reserves here in canada. 47 different reserves. 10 million each.
Do you honestly think that THAT would be a tougher pill to swallow than sending it away for foreign climate change? This would be tangible and would take money OUT of the chiefs hands and place it where many of the reserves need it. Plus. It would gain some serious votes.
I should be a campaign manager.Last edited by goalieguy847; Nov 16, 2025, 11:46.
