    Ostriches

How did this become such a big story? There is probably less than a 1000 ostriches across the country.

Do chicken farmers lose it when avian flu strikes and their barns are cleared?

No, they take the compensation, clean up and start over.

Any idea that the Ostriches should be used for avian flu research is laughable because a lot of the crew supporting the ostriches don't believe in science or research results anyway.

The other question is why do we allow exotic animals to be farmed anyway?

Wild boar and elk have been a disaster. Farmed elk brought chronic wasting disease into Canada. It's spreading dramatically and threatens elk, deer and moose populations.

Wild boar are getting out of hand and they carry swine diseases that threaten the pork industry. And they cause serious crop damage.

No pig or chicken farm would allow anti science anti government activists near their farms.

But the Ostrich farm encouraged and allowed people to come into contact with the potential source of the next pandemic. Totally irresponsible behaviour!

We don't need people like that speaking for animal agriculture especially a niche like ostriches.

Ostrich farming in Canada exists on a very small scale, primarily for products like oil, leather, and meat. Who buys any of these ostrich products? Probably almost no one!

I don’t disagree with you for once.

Now that the Ponzi Scheme has been taken care of, the media, politicians, general public, and the court system's attention can focus on real world issues.

To even attempt classifying raising Ostriches as being part of Agriculture is a wet dream.

Not surpirsing Tamara was there providing the entertainment for the Ottawa Feb 2022 and Coutts Border Blockcade Sheepie holdovers, what a productive group they are.

CFIA and RCMP never feared infection, No hazmat, masks?

Hope the blood splattered on the SOB's!

AND AND ...we need to exterminate 100's of millions of geese and duck, every bird flying over us SHYTTING flu on us!

        Pretty DUMB huh?

lesson learned ...NEVER tell CFIA about a death of any kind, USA ranchers/farmers ....SHOOT shovel and shut up!

That's how they never had Mad Cow, and us dumb phuckers DID!

So what was going through the ostrich owner's mind when they were dropping dead left and right? Almost 70 of 300 die and doesn't seek help from a vet?
Doesn't seem very humane or caring for her flock.

I find it ironic that ostriches are the main issue at the front of this rare infection. I remember a famous Minister that was an Ostrich farmer and was in charge of CFIA when another rare infection broke out and killed about 20 people.
He not only made jokes about them dying he also wished his opponent would get sick and die.
They not only removed CFIA from under his watch he was inducted into the AG Hall of Fame after saying those things.

            Things happen in mysterious ways.

You're more concern over the culling ( "murder" as to how one poster who is challenged on the meaning of the word described it ) of the 300 Ostriches than the 8.7 MILLION poutlry culled on actual B.C. poultry FARMS.

Then you bring the Beef industry into the mix and compare the years of hardship beef producers suffered to the culling of the 300 Ostrich Ponzi Scheme.

But, then again Poultry Farms fall under Supply Management and we all know how many on Agriville are envious of those farmers.

The CFIA policy of culling animals with infectious disease to protect the greater industry has been agreed upon and used for decades without much criticism.

Livestock industry groups representing their farmers and processors have had a lot of input into these policies and support them widely.

It isn't heavy handed government, its common sense designed to stamp out livestock industry diseases that have the potential to cause loss or harm to export and domestic markets.

If you get into livestock production you absolutely take care of your animals and other livestock farmers by following the biosecurity and animal welfare rules. Because if you don't, what you do can affect the whole industry negatively.

If you don't want to follow the established rules, then don't bother raising livestock and trying to change them willy nilly because your farm is experiencing an outbreak.

It's not up to individuals to make these decisions.

An infectious animal disease expert from the U of S said its impossible to test for the avian flu virus in surviving birds effectively because it can be hiding in specific tissues and be undetectable in others.

Once a flock has had mortality from avian flu there is no other option effectively, but to cull in other words.

Geese have died, so are all suspect? The snows are SO thick, disease must be rampant.

We have a bigger problem....where is mRNA to rescue us from such cullings?

Curious what tool the "professional marksman" used. Assuming headshots. In the dark, interesting.
Unsafe and impractical to needle the damn things.
                    $3000/ bird.
Thinking the stupidity was tolerated long enough.
