Steven Lewis and many other experts have described various options to improve health care without going to a for profit private care system.

Where does the profit in providing the best health care possible come from Absurd 5?

"Steven Lewis knows his solution for fixing health care won't be popular, but he says it's necessary for filling massive gaps in the current system.

"The solution sounds simple. It is," said the longtime policy analyst. "We need to actually create a primary care system that is attached to the rest of the system, meaning all the other services."

Specifically, Lewis is suggesting all physicians in the province work under the Saskatchewan Health Authority as contracted employees, similar to the way teachers work under the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation.

Under that model, Lewis said doctors could be assigned to locations that need care, instead of choosing when and where they work, and what kind of patients they accept."

Where does the profit come from in the current system? Just because the taxpayers pay for it instead of private citizens or insurance companies, doesn't change the fact that every player in the industry is still making profit.

I mostly scroll past the American political noise but isn't RFK mostly trying to get people to live a healthier lifestyle?
Not start the day with 6 different pills that big pharma has eveyone on.
If all of those pills make you disoriented or any side effects they have another pill for that?

Some people enjoy poor health and big pharma is always coming up with new cures?

As usual, chuck doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. Almost all Canadian doctors are Incorporated.

most primary care clinics and many other health services in Canada are privately owned and operated by physicians who are private contractors billing the government, not employees.

Every step of the way it is a for-profit system.
The only difference being in this country they send the bill to the taxpayers, in the US they send it to an insurance company.

In Neither case does the consumer bear any responsibility for their poor health choices.

Why does it bother you so much about the option of private health care ???
if someone can afford to get the care and attention they need far far quicker than our current overloaded system good on them . Why does you piss and moan so much about that ??
There will always be a current health care system in Canada regardless of who is in power
your fear mongering is just ludicrous already
I know dozens of people who chose private health care cause they can’t wait on the current system because it’s way overloaded due to the massive increase in immigration caused by the previous liberal / NDP coalition government, it’s as plain and the nose on your face you absolutely refuse to acknowledge

So Stephen is a longtime analyst and expert. Have you read your cut and paste?

                Drs could be "assigned"???

This has been going on for more than a decade dufus. New Dr take their exams to show qualification. Then are offered 3 year contracts at their "assigned" location. Problem is as soon as the 3 years are up they move to Toronto or Calgary or Kelowna where they can work in a family practice and have weekends off.

The number of new recruits is the problem. We need hundreds of Dr a year to keep up with the turnover.

If you want to be the employer.
                  U need to maintain retention.
U are competing with other employers.
Removing choices a contradictory strategy. Same with customers.

Steven Lewis is the expert who can explain the needed changes he recommends.

The rest of us just have arm chair opinions.

And many doctors are on salary in hospitals, community and walk in clinics. Not all of them are incorporated running small businesses on their own.

In fact many of them don't want the administrative burden of their own practice. Nor do they all want to go into family practice. Many prefer to specialize.

There is a shortage of doctors for primary care. How are you going to fix it?
