Depends how effective they are as opposition this time around.

The current liberal model is also not working, it’s simply a better sounding idea to most and has had nothing concrete to show otherwise. If the government is actually allowed to function instead of held together by tape and political games then a whole new aspect will appear.

Separation wouldn’t accomplish anything. The cities grow, the urban population has different concerns and understandings, the cities vote in the government. It’d be building the exact same boat and telling yourself it’s going to float so much better. Yelling separate is just a knee jerk reaction without any thought beyond “Gee wouldn’t that be great”. There’s way more potential for shit to hit the fan through separation but it’s all brushed off as a simple That’ll never happen.

And if the other recent by election showed anything, it’s that separation is a pipe dream. A decent portion of the Battle River Crowfoot riding shot down the provincial separatist party.

Separatists are the vegans of the political world.
