"If anything, the country’s labour productivity remains so poor – second worst in the G7 – precisely because Canada has put so much weight on the fossil-fuel industry, starving more dynamic industries of capital. In this regard, Harvard University’s Index of Economic Complexity (https://oec.world/en/profile/country/can) is revealing. Canada’s export profile – heavily dependent on a relatively narrow range of resource exports – not only makes it look backward, but the situation has been getting worse, since gains for the fossil-fuel industry aren’t producing much in the way of economic diversification.?

What the Mideast war has highlighted is that oil’s days are numbered – though it may be with us for a while, it will never enable us to reclaim past glory.

Canada should read that memo now, because this moment of opportunity won’t last.

NATO wants military spending to reach 5% of GDP. I am curious Chuck2 how many fighter jets, war ships and tanks run on batteries? Certainly submarines are nuclear powered but everything else runs on fossil fuels. And over 80% of the worlds energy produced and consumed everyday comes from fossil fuels. Certainly looks like oil is on the way out!

Hamloc have you heard of drones? They run on batteries!

Drone warfare is taking over many of the battlefields. Try to keep up!

The US is now spending more on interest on their debt than they are on the military!

As far as our deficit goes Mark Carney says "Hold my beer"
He is planning on showing us deficits that even Trudeau wouldn’t consider.
Wonder if Freeland will rebel and quit?

Something we agree on, the US spends more on debt than the military certainly possible. Actually at present I am sure Canada does a well with $50 billion in interest payments. Something that will apparently balloon under Carney.

As for drones, certainly short range drones used in the Ukraine are electric with a range up to 50 kms. Longer range are powered by fossil fuels, so Chuck2, you keep up!

Hamloc you said "everything runs on oil except for Nuclear subs"?

But you forgot about small scale battery drones.

And what do you suppose they use to charge those electric drones in the middle of a war zone when both sides are targeting electrical infrastructure?
A current bush?
Or a fossil fuel powered generator?

Every part of that buzz bomb relies on a hydrocarbon to build it.
If only that rabid activist energy could be used to find a replacement.
