Don’t forget Kaliningrad was part of Germany which the Russians helped themselves to after ww2 and never let go of. Right or wrong every major power at one point of their existence has partaken empire building. Russia is a latecomer to this as they were under the yoke of mongol rule which put them behind 300 years.

Was one of the first places to openly rebel against Moscow/ Soviet rule.

I really admire the Polish people. The resistance they put up to the Soviets throughout the cold war period was incredible, considering the risks entailed.
The heroic deeds during the second war are legendary.
Our neighbor was part of the Gdansk shipyard strike. Has some fascinating stories.
