      Goalieguy,
The anti-Trump, anti-American elbows up rhetoric might have made for great emotional election propaganda to get the low information gullible voters who always want government to save them, and have an anti-US bent at the best of times.

But back in the real world, 80% of our exports still go to the US, and that needle is unlikely to budge on any reasonable timescale.

We should be grateful we still have one adult politician who did the responsible thing, and was negotiating on our behalf, instead of throwing more gasoline on the dumpster fire.

Canada has been essentially leaderless since Trump won the election, between the Liberals being too busy obstructing any investigation into their latest scandals, then Trudeau getting the boot. Almost 6 months of potential negotiations lost. Smith was the only lifeline we had.

I would argue you are totally wrong. Donald Trump cost the Conservatives the election. He said so after the election. I can find many articles on this very topic. The collapse of the NDP vote cost Poilievre the election. Quebec helped Carney win the election. Do you honestly think Danielle Smith caused Quebecers to turn away from the Bloc and vote Liberal?! No way, that was a reaction to Trump. Did Poilievre make some bad decisions, certainly. He certainly should have cultivated symbiotic relationships with Premiers like Doug Ford(who I think is a Liberal masquerading as a PC) and Tim Huston. Do I think the media did their best to make what Premier Smith was doing look bad? Absolutely. Hell on election night CBC supposed journalists like Rosemary Barton were cheering on Carney. So no Danielle Smiths “big balls” didn’t cost the Conservatives the election.

Conservatives won in Ontario ridings which had been historically NDP or Liberal. But of course being the CBC even though the article is about Conservatives they put a picture of Carney.

            Good points Goalie.

The Chinese tariffs are on meal and oil not seed.

More damaging is the change in bio-diesel demand in the US.

But why do farmers want to sell lower carbon emission canola for bio diesel if they don't believe climate change is real?

Its takes 2 or more divisive politicians to make a fight! It's not all the responsibility of one party in other words.

You would think by listening to Moe and Smith that their provinces are poor and suffering messes. That is not the case at all.

Alberta and Saskatchewan are doing fairly well with high GDP per capita and a higher standard of living than many provinces.

The problem is they are too far to the right on many issues compared to Ontario and other provinces.

It's a lot of politics fanning the flames of western resentment.

And Alberta is a one dominant industry economy that needs to plan for the future of lower oil demand.

Doubling oil production is a pipe dream. Why not invest in diversifying the economy?
Apparently it's oil or give up in Alberta?

Holland is one of the biggest food exporters on the planet with a small amount of land.

Apparently they know how to make themselves into a exporting powerhouse.

AI says second in ag exports after US.
Holland gets to utilize it's entire country, which is smaller than Nova Scotia.
Discontent here began in the 70s-80s.
Agree we need to diversify our gdp.
              Increasing socialism won't do that.

Lol. So donald trumpcost the cons the election... but smith cosying up to him didnt? I guess you can have it both ways if you need to.

Do we think that previous endorsements from

                Elon musk
                donald trump
                jordan peterson
                alex jones
                Ben shapiro
                matt gaetz

                Helped?

Like em of love em matt gaetz is excrement and alex jones...well.. enough said.

early on these seemed like mighty fine endorsements... musk was seen as a green warrior and genius...
trump was the antihero that usa needed..

But when the tariffs came on .. oof. That hurt pierre.
Look. The guy lost his own riding. Hes not even the leader of his own domain. That is telling right there.

Granted he was in a difficult spot having taken the endorsements earlier ( and stolen some.of trumps slogans.... common sense..etc etc) but it wound up biting him in the arse when trumps tariffs came into play. Maybe trump did it on purpose to help the libs.. i dont know. But pierre didnt push back hard enough.. and in the last 3 months he shouldve told danny smith to hold off on her plans visiting the guy who, very possibly, couldve been helping the liberals ( knowingly or unknowingly).

                  Also

Oil production in alberta HAS almost increased 10 fold since harper days... readching what.. 4.3 million bpd vs 560 k in 2012.

Our BIGGEST issue is that we are selling at a discount INTO the US.
We dont need more oil.. we need more trading partners. And thats where pierre didnt hold the gun with a silver bullet. And thats tidewater... ( shockingly the trudeau liberals increased our tidewater capacity more previous con govts!) But we wont talk about that in alberta! And listen.. i despise trudeau and i sure as tits didnt vote liberal this or any previous election.

You need to work on your googling. So yes in 2012 conventional oil production was 560000 barrels a day, oil sands production was an additional 1.92 million barrels a day for a total of 2.48 million barrels a day. So production since 2012 hasn’t quite doubled not 10 fold. As I said before, you and I have irreconcilable differences.

                      Whoops sorry! I meant doubled.
which still doesnt disprove a point about where our production should go.

And the fact that trump helped hurt the cons chances.. and cozying up to him definitely did as well.
