Grainews article on EV’s in winter

Scott Garvey recently wrote an article mainly talking about the Ford Lightning and New Chev. Silverado and their performance in winter versus what the sticker on the door says. What caught my eye was the Chev. Equinox. I owned a 2015 gas version which I then traded off on my present 2023 Chev. Blazer. The Equinox EV had a tested winter range of 337 km. My Blazer averages 10 litres per 100 km. In the test of the EV’s they ran them until they stopped to test their range. By that comparison with the 82 litre tank in my Blazer I have a range of 820 km. In the winter I am sure this would drop 10%. The other interesting part of this article they tested added range from a 15 minute fast charge. Best performance here was the Chev. Silverado at 190 kms. In my Blazer, 5 minutes at a gas pump gives me full range again. Sorry I won’t pay more money for an EV for far less range and convenience.

Batteries and charging times are improving quickly.

Most drivers don't need large amounts of range alot of the time.

Cheaper EVs are on the way from many manufacturers.

Cheaper EVS were on their way from china. Then Trudeau put large tariffs on them to keep them out. Throwing Farmers under the bus in the process.

China is leading the way on EVs and Musk is in trouble with his brand. A lesson on not what to do as a wacky CEO.

I would rather buy a Chinese EV than a Tesla.

The rest of the car companies are moving to try to keep up with China.

The government you just voted for doesn't want you to buy a Chinese EV.

How do you square that circle?

And you supported a government that kept Chinese EVs out and lost our largest canola and pea buyer.
At the expense of the lower income.
            Profits only obscene for some.

My cousin in China extensively lately.
Surprising number of EVs on the road. Me in 2010 none, but very few bicycles either. I've been told 15 years before that, predominantly bicycles.
We take that long to study something in order to come up with regulations to kill it.
15 years of Turd/Carney what will we build?

I expect we will be building whatever Carney decides we need to meet his climate goals.
Requiring high subsidies at every level.
It will be extremely expensive as we will use some taxpayer funding but mostly print money and borrow to increase the deficit.
Surprising everyone when that causes inflation and we can run on a Chuck economy with a low value dollar that will make everything we aren't building cost more.

One of the Chinese ev manufacturers claims to have a 15 minute charge time?

Large part of the reason TSLA dropped in value and our uncompleted battery plants were obsolete before opening.

And considering the perfect track record of failure of everything the government touches, the list of everything we aren't building here will be longer than ever.
Compounded as the increasing taxes and regulations (to subsidize the green new economy) force even more actual manufacturers to leave for greener pastures.

How does your hybrid mileage differ in winter compared to warmer weather Chuck?
