Your modest cash reserve would have to have as many zeros added to it as the underlying assets have.
I started with my father's debt and no cash.
Granted, it would now be impossible on any stand alone wage.
    But what's easier?
    Perhaps that question is moot.
A lifetime of talking myself out of wants and needs begs the answer to that question.
Many opportunities in business for the right young people today.
Farming from scratch is relegated to history as a blip during times of severe undervalue.
Same as any other high capital, low margin, cyclical, raw commodity production.

No farm owes my son a living. I'm thankful he's not tied.
Also that I have options allowed by asset appreciation.
Reality insists we realize there's more to life.

If I understand your question, you've answered it.

Live poor, die rich they used to say.
I married this place over 40 years ago, gave it everything and it still wants more.
Definitely an easier life than digging ditches. But maybe I'd have liked to fly planes.
Maybe easier is a frame of mind.
I know the clock can't be rewound.
      Don't get caught up wishing.

If someone was given(put on) a golden brick road to start their farming journey on, I think it's just as important to ask what they've done with it. Did they maintain it, grow it or lose it? Or sell it?!?!?!?
        Easy come easy go....

I know I'll never get the full financial value I worked for and risks I took.

          Funny you should ask.
I have a front row seat to your question. Two outfits.
One. Silver spoon. Never bled, never under the fingernails. No heart. No education.
          Losing millions of old money.

Two. Married into the land. Both grew up in the city.
          Business degrees and sense.
Does not need the farm to live.
          Doing well.

Just a question, has farm debt increased in the last 20 years?

I’ve got a feeling that blackpowders mother wasn’t washing eggs and buying his glasses in 2005. We all forget that 20 years ago wasn’t the 80s…

              1971-72 actually.
And no disrespect but my Dad would've done better with some education.
The 80s all other family that farmed quit except one. They became too small.
2003, and after 06, was the best time to expand since 71.

I’ll be reading that a couple more times to figure it out, pretty big numbers for Monette

I'd say the old boy earned his $12M.
There's always dripping fat to catch.

Not clear if the 75% deal ever happened?
