Hydro doesn't work during dry spells either. AB biggest hydro facility, Brazeau, just idles along most of the time so it is not that reliable either. There was a proposal to pump water there but I don't think anything came of that. Coal is still the most reliable, followed by NG.

As I said the petro heads can only think it's either one or the other. They don't seem to realize you can use multiple sources of generation including renewables even though every province and most states do.?

Renewables are a growing share of the worlds electricity.

Interesting chart from the IEA showing the differences of where the worlds energy has come from from 1971 to 2019(most up to date chart I could find). It surprised me that Biofuels and waste far exceeded hydro.

Why would that be surprising. The virtue signaling climate apocalypse types in the energy rich first world are denying the third world access to cheap plentiful clean fossil fuels. Therefore they are stuck using wood and dung. With all of the environmental and health catastrophes that go along with that.

But statistically it sure sounds good to lump them in with renewable biofuels.

The developing world is choosing renewables because they are the lowest cost source of new electricity generation by far. And allow them to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Really low income consumers don't consume expensive oil or much of anything.
