    Social media ban

Well children and teenagers will be banned from using social media from the end of next year after the government's world-first legislation passed the parliament with bipartisan support.

    Both sides "sort of" agreed.

Tictock Snapchat instagram all of which i know nothing are banned and Facebook.

Not sure how twitter survived the purge. Presume user base on twitter isnt teenagers.

Civil rights people up in arms, shrinks saying will cause harm by the ban others shrinks saying harm will be caused by them not being on social media.

Grey areas, social media companies could be fined up to $50 million for failing to take "reasonable steps" to keep under 16s off their platforms.

Digital Id?? Parents and users who flout the laws wont be fined only techs???

    Dogs breakfast as they say.

Side issue those who got the memo we are meant to be cutting a guy on here some slack let him vent.

    Did I miss the memo?

I do believe kids need some kind of social media but probably need a little more guidance and supervision.

A mutual friend implored me/us to go easy on the biggest poster on here. Let him vent free world. Just agree to disagree or ignore.

Children must not be exposed to view points other than government mandated propaganda. Something like 30% of school age children in a recent study out of France are aware that the Earth is a level plain. The globalists are in full panic mode over the loss of control and growing distrust.

My middle name is Neil, all because of the moon landing and my birthday was almost the same day that Neil walked on the moon, the rabbit hole is pretty deep but I’m not really sure anyone walked on the moon.

Social media was never created for the betterment of society, particularly children. It is all about profit. Do you trust these corporations to rein In there influence? Those experiences you mention are being replaced by social media. Will we be better off ?

I remember the first time someone told me that probably 15 years ago. And I dismissed them as conspiracy theorists.
Now that we have the Twitter files etc, turns out it wasn't a conspiracy theory. The social media winners and losers literally were groomed/ coerced by the intelligence agencies as a means of tracking and controlling public discourse.

I support any type of limitation for children. Even if with parental buy-in, likely unenforceable.

                        Presuming this is Australian legislation.

I'd much prefer Canada to implement something like that than the news monitoring we've currently got.

Anyone that argues banning social media from all children will harm them has their heads up their asses. If only some were banned then an argument could be made but if all are restricted across the country then there should be minimal issues. It's not like some are going to feel left out and bullied for it.

I can't think of one actual skill social media can be said to give. It doesn't help socialization skills, doesn't help typing or spelling, doesn't help critical thinking, doesn't improve attention span. If anything it hinders almost everything, not improves it. It can be a great resource when used responsibly, but teenagers need to mature to a point to be able to do that. Any points brought up in defense of children and teens having access to social media are likely to be feeble and based on convenience.

This is very forward thinking and I'm actually impressed it's being pushed forward. Call Australia the experiment the world will be watching but I think it has potential for some great benefits.

Groomed? Now who is using conspiracy catch phrases. It still all about the money, but if you wish to invite scrutiny go ahead.

What word would you use in place of groomed?
                            Prepared? Primed? Conditioned?
I'm sure there's a more appropriate word, but it won't come to me.

Implying any active control is conspiratorial. Sheer observation is enough to formulate strategy. The drive is by the social media to sow controversy and to increase revenue is obvious.
