Only slightly behind Norway and Germany? To examples of very successful economies.
More proof we should increase productivity in many economic sectors and reduce less productive investments in the tar sands which have low productivity as compared to other industries.

What other industries exist in Canada. We just about have them all.Originally posted by AlbertaFarmer5 View PostI'll ask again, what other industries would you suggest investing in?
But oil dominates in Alberta and sucks up a lot of the oxygen and capital and subsidies. Renewable clean energy is also a vast resource.
The assumption that resource industries are the only engine of the economy in Canada is wrong. Resource are very important but so is manufacturing, food production and processing, high tech, aerospace, healthcare research etc etc
Even Saudia Arabia is planning on diversifying their economy.

One cannot argue we seem to have done poorly on diversification. A nation wide ill. Seems far more complicated than blaming oil.
The ongoing years long brain drain indicates bigger issues.
Oil itself can be a more complicated industry than it appears on the surface.
Small plays require private investors outside of normal financial institutions. High risk. You should try it sometime.

Saudi Arabia can afford to diversify almost more than any country on earth because they wisely utilize their petroleum resources to create wealth to further diversify their economy, much like Notway did .Originally posted by chuckChuck View Post

They get it , Canada simply shooting it’s self in the foot this past 8 years
when Trudeau refused to deal with LNG to Japan and others that was the dumbest thing ever.
the wealth created from that natural resource could have paid for a lot more diversification, but no this coalition government is bound and determined to simply tax the middle class and small businesses into poverty instead.
worst leadership in Canadian history.Last edited by furrowtickler; Jul 17, 2024, 09:54.
