Its a pilot project so lets see what the outcome is.

Its also shows that renewable energy can be stored.

Everything on earth more or less is or was powered by the suns energy.

Why not use it as much as possible? Its an unlimited source of free energy that is so simple to capture and use.

Chuck, in North America natural gas is being flared off as a by product because we have such a glut, we might as well convert it into nitrogen fertilizer and make some use of it before converting it to CO2.

But if you listen to the speech that started this thread, the nfu wants to eliminate inputs, not change their source.

Bullshit! The NFU and other farm groups are talking about reducing emissions not getting rid of all inputs!

What a laugh you are A5

Did you not listen to the nfu video at the beginning of this thread? Darrin says multiple times : reduce inputs, reduce on farm emissions.
I haven't reread the nfu climate change report for a while, but from what I recall there was a strong focus on the on-farm emissions from the application of fertilizer.

Further to Chuck's claim that the NFU doesn't want to eliminate inputs. And that making ammonia from solar power would solve anything.
Some snippets from the NFU climate crisis report(I read it so you don't have to):

            2. Nitrous oxide. N2O comes mainly from fossil-fuel combustion, nitrogen fertilizer use, and manure management. Though the tonnage of N2O emitted is much less than that of CO2, N2O contributes significantly to warming because tonne-for-tonne its warming effect is 265 times more powerful than CO2.

Nitrous oxide (N2O), mostly from nitrogen chemistry in our soils (and this mostly from the application of synthetic nitrogen fertilizer)

Extrapolating from figure 4-1, it appears that the CO2 equivalent emissions from nitrogen fertilizer application is at least 4 times that of the manufacture of nitrogen fertilizer. So Chuck's solution of using solar to create ammonia fertilizer only reduces the emissions by ~20%.

As noted, there are three main sources of agricultural emissions: 1. ...
            2. From agricultural soils (mainly a result of nitrogen fertilizer production and use). Nitrogen production contributes about 11%, and emission from fertilizer use make up about 18%, for a total of 29% of agricultural emissions.

Reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from energy use by:
            • reducing production and use of fertilizer and other emissions-intensive inputs;

            2. Reduce nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from land and manure by: • reducing the amount of synthetic nitrogen fertilizer required

It is therefore not surprising that nitrogen fertilizer is also the largest source of emissions.

Encourage and support the transition to organic production.
Organic producers are demonstrating important ways that all farmers can reduce GHG emissions. Organic farmers are producing crops without purchased synthetic nitrogen

And on and on, countless exhortations to eliminate inputs.

And if you think that is scary, read what he has to say about the evil livestock. Including, and I'm not making this up, "The case against cattle".

The NFU and their reports are just a big load of manure

Where does it say eliminating inputs? You make that dumb ass claim and then provide no evidence!

Farm groups are talking about reducing emissions, not getting rid of all inputs! What a laugh you are!

But of course the flat earthers who don't think rising CO2 levels are causing climate change aren't interested in doing anything! Its like Crops brainless claim all birds are pests. Really stupid!

But then some say they want to be paid for carbon sequestration? Go figure?

So what have you done to reduce inputs on your farm, Chuck?
How many of Darrin's solutions have you implemented, how successful have they been?

So now you admit it is reduction not elimination? Progress!

                    What have you done A5?

The way I read it, the penultimate goal of the NFU report is organic, with no outside inputs. That is elimination, not reduction. The rest is stop gap temporary measures on the way to the panacea.

I'm not the one lecturing actual farmers about their CO2 footprint. You are the poster on your soapbox chastising everyone else, while not a peep about your own operation. Not even a hint that you know enough about farming to even bluff your way into a response.

How do we know you are a real farmer?

Or are you just a pretengineer who denies basic science and sides with the antivaxers and real flat earthers?

If you are a civil engineer I wouldn't drive across your bridge designs based on your made up boneheaded ideas and denial of science.

Maybe there is a reason you ended up farming where the mistakes only affect you?

                            Another pretengineer running WHO...

WHO Director-General calls for a "transformation" of the food system, away from meat-eating and traditional agriculture, in the name of fighting "climate change": "Our food systems are harming the health of people and planet. Food systems contribute to over 30% of greenhouse gas emissions, and account for almost one third of the global burden of disease." "Transforming food systems is therefore essential, by shifting towards healthier, diversified and more plant based diets."

                            We are the problem!

Chuck, this is your chance to prove me wrong.

Try to make up a believable story about your make believe farming operation, indicating all of the measures you have taken to reduce your emissions. Including the economic returns and the net change in emissions would be even better.

That will gain you more credibility than all of the name calling and insults. Which, honestly doesn't seem to be working out for you.
