    The greenhouse effect helps trap heat from the sun, which keeps the temperature on earth comfortable. But people's activities are increasing the amount of heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, causing the earth to warm up.

      Thank you for the lesson.
      We can observe the greenhouse effect in real time lately. With all of the extra water vapour in the atmosphere from the Hunga Tonga undersea eruption. And the resulting record high temperatures across the world.

      When this first occurred, meteorologists predicted it might take 4 years to dissipate. After that, it will be interesting to see if temperatures revert to the mean, or if we have to reconsider the long term trend.

        Too small chuck, can't read it...Water Vapor is number one Green house gas. Not manmade C02, it's 3.225% of 0.04% of the air.

          Answer:

Water vapour will generally stay in the atmosphere for days (before precipitating out) while other greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide or methane, will stay in the atmosphere for a much longer period of time (ranging from years to centuries) thus contributing to warming for an extended period of time.

          The addition of water vapour to the atmosphere, for the most part, cannot be directly attributed to human generated activities. Increased water vapor content in the atmosphere is referred to as a feedback process. Warmer air is able to hold more moisture. As the climate warms, air temperatures rise, more evaporation from water sources and land occurs, thus increasing the atmospheric moisture content. The increase in water vapour in the atmosphere, because water vapour is an effective greenhouse gas, thus contributes to even more warming: it enhances the greenhouse effect.

          Water vapour is often discussed and recognized as being an important part of the global warming process. The water vapour feedback process is most likely responsible for a doubling of the greenhouse effect when compared to the addition of carbon dioxide on its

            just words used to find a reason to blame C02, tiny tiny miniscule percentage of the air in your face.?

            C02 does NOT stay, plants/forests/crops SUCK it up ASAP, giving you O2!

              What a brilliant theory climate change is.
              Acknowledge that water vapor as the primary greenhouse gas will cause warming. Then attribute and increase in water vapor to co2. Circular argument.
              So, no matter what happens, we can blame it on co2. Once again making a non falsifiable hypothesis.

              The only problem with this theory is that water vapor is instead decreasing as CO2 increases. So much for settled science.

              But of course, the models are never wrong.
              This is contrary to all climate model simulations

                It’s pretty obvious that if we are increasing water vapour in the atmosphere it would be raining in unprecedented quantities.
