Probably not anytime soon, but the future is a long time so who knows. With thousands of engineers around the world working on improving battery technology who knows what improvements can be made.

Solid state batteries from Panasonic and Toyota are coming soon.

But electrified trolley buses and trains have been around for a long time and are very efficient.

Probably never nor does it have too.

So every other technological advancement in human history was cheaper, more efficient, more user friendly, except this one. It is acceptable that EV's be worse by all measures than electric buses from more than a century ago, because ideology trumps reality.

So if you acknowledge that EV's will never achieve the same standards and cost effectiveness as a direct electric bus, would you be in favour of going back to electric buses on a wire?

What does a streetcar/electric train/subway have to do with battery powered buses?
Unfortunately, most western cities tore out their overhead infrastructure that powered the streetcars and trolley buses.

Imagine explaining to someone from a century ago that we would give up that proven reliable system with virtually unlimited range, that worked in all weather and climates; to battery powered buses. A giant step backwards.

Well AB5 our Canadian governments mandated the shutdown of coal fired electricity generation with a capacity factor of 85-90% and told us that wind with a capacity factor of 34-38% and solar with a capacity factor of 16-20% was a technological advancement. At the same time China and India are increasing their coal fired generation by magnitudes of many times greater than what we shut down. No different than replacing a diesel school bus with an electric one that costs 2-3 times as much and has less than 1/3 the range.

Chuck2, your going after our Premier for bringing in more rules for renewables. You constantly talk about how solar and wind are technological advancements, asking if we are all still using a party line for phones! How those that support fossil fuels are flat earthers. How Alberta is installing more renewables than anywhere else in Canada. It is you who must get his story straight.

For someone so fixated on emissions, one would think you would at least have learned how to spell it by now.

Here is a question. If there is no economic future in oil and gas, what will we export to pay the bills?
