Alberta doesnt want students to get sex education?

Danny Smith doesn't really want students to learn about anything about sex in Alberta schools when she says parents have to consent every time it is discussed in schools.

Is she going to block all the porn, gender identity, LGBQT discussions and information on the kids smartphones too?

Its about as effective as telling kids abstinence is the only way. That really worked well with previous generations!

Danny Smith is setting back sex education in schools to the 1950s.

    Here's what's sad.
Basic sex ed getting lumped with confusing gender info.
All or none thinking. Led to all vaccines getting lumped with the covid fiasco.
Surely we can all support banning irrevocable medical procedures, and guardian disclosure of well being.

      You're such a shlub chuck
0 clue whatsoever. You need to do some reading on current curriculum as what's being proposed here.

What the cons are doing is, arguably, correct in that they ARE taking the set education policy and discussion and allowing the parents to opt in or out. Now thats not without some inherent issues ( one can argue that by allowing the parents to opt in or out for their child will greatly be affected religion...moral...personal beliefs), but as the dad of 3 young boys it's important that I am kept in the loop and the education that is being taught to my kids is open and honest.
listen. I'm no Danielle Smith fan. She's junk.
But let's not clutch our pearls here and pretend that Alberta is going to raise a generation of bigots and homophones because the ministry of education will now require any 3rd party information and teaching material regarding gender identity and LGBT information to be approved by the ministry.
Banning hormonal treatment until kids are 15 just makes sense. Every single zit covered 13 yr old wants to be in a different body for crimes sake...but 99.9% of people grow out of it. You wanna have bottom surgery at 17? Great. Do it. But a 14 yr old should not be able to make that decision on their own.
      and as for.
.. GASP. Banning trans women from competing in womens sports? How dare they!
oh. Except that the world aquatics... cycling... etc. Have alL moved to ban it with the IOC following suite.

Danielle Smith isn't taking sex education back 50 yes.. but she is putting some control back into the hands of the people that matter most in the lives of children..... their parents , instead of the religious/ moral/ ethos of a single mind ( the teacher).

The numbers and polling are overwhelmingly for these changes.

      get bent dude. Seriously.

So Goalie, you are in favour of violating the charter of rights and freedoms I take it?

Saskatchewan had to use the not withstanding clause with their legislation because they knew they violated the charter primarily for divisive political reasons based on 18 constituent letters. Yes just 18!

Alberta has opened the door to going much farther with no consultation except within the party.

How can you support a policy that says parents and their children are banned from seeking hormone therapy when the Canadian Medical associations says such therapy is usefull and accepted in treating children who are transgender or gender diverse?

That is a violation of the family's rights to seek accepted medical care.

Alberta is catering to social conservatives who are at the best uncomfortable with the LGBQT+ community and at worst are are deeply hatefull of the LGBQT+ community.

So much for personal parental freedom in Alberta and other provinces when social conservatives want to tell everyone how to live their lives according to their religious or personal beliefs!

Boys and girls have been playing hockey and other sports together in some leagues for a long time so why would you ban transgender athletes from playing together in recreational leagues?

And we don't have to worry about a new generation of bigots and homophobes in Alberta because there already enough of them in the UCP to go around.

Speaking at an event on September 1, 2022, MLA Jennifer Johnson from Lacombe compared the presence of transgender children in schools to "adding a teaspoon of feces to a batch of cookies".

That was even too much hate for Danny Smith.

After the remarks were revealed, and before the election, UCP party leader Danielle Smith said that Johnson would not sit with the caucus if elected.

Lets hope the Feds rattle the UCP cage and threaten to with hold some federal funding for healthcare in Alberta. The province with the lowest healthcare funding per capita! And you wonder why your healthcare in Alberta sucks? Canada's richest province per capita spends the least on healthcare? Huh?

This is going to make Crypto Poilievre and his deputy LGBQT leader uncomfortable if they allow this attack on the LGBQT community and parental rights to go ahead without comment.

The optics of attacking the most vulnerable children in society is not a good look.

The last thing they want is a shit show of draconian charter breaking social conservatism erupting and tainting the CPC before next election.

Even PP avoided the Tucker Carlson rightwing circus act. But Danny showed up as Tucker's clown!

And what do we get the following week in Alberta? More feces from the UCP

        Run PP Run!

Let the Alberta UCP feces hitting the fan show begin!

Perhaps what's gone too far is what now falls under accepted medical care.

It is not a human right to sterilize and mutilate children.

Stepping back from assumptions, blanket charges and provoking vitriol.
We can agree that medical knowledge is ever changing.
Gender affirming care has many levels and schools have a role.
Importantly, simple affirmation before any care. Care implies intervention pro or con.
                  Who said we're banning affirmation?

England and Norway place adolescent medical intervention in the trial only phase.
Proposal is Women's sport not juvenile.
Although who would want their 15 yr old girls' body playing football with 15-17 boy bodies anyway? Physically dangerous. Generally accepted at 12, seen it and fine with it.

We all need to stop the tabloid style pronouncements and start using common sense.

Accepted care. My son, during a litany of professional care, was misdiagnosed repeatedly and prescribed treatments, especially mind altering drugs, that both met criteria and appeased his mother, by extension the professionals as well.
He is doing much better away from accepted care. Hopefully no long term effects from the drugs. We don't know. Certainly affected his body during early puberty tho.
Again, knowledge in some fields doubles every generation. And correct treatment can be in the eyes of the beholder.
An excellent read would be The Boy Who was raised as a Dog by Dr. Bruce Perry. Aside from it's trauma based studies, it painfully illustrates how what's accepted can change.
My daughter when 12, was gender confused. Luckily all adults in her sphere gave only listening care without intervention. Listening care, not western medicine style intervention, kill it, fix it, or cut it off only.
You've heard of Munchausen's by proxy?
She is much happier and sure of herself now at 14.
                  I'm not an accredited anything.
But I can smell cheap, blanket, undereducated, provocative pronouncements.
I recognize there are children in need of gender recognition. Start with that. Stop the extremely polar fighting. Everyone loses with evangelism whether pro or con.

Reading this proposal, I find nothing to disagree with. I should however study the current school curriculum and policies before I pretend further knowledge.

And I believe you will see increasing challenges to federal law by the provinces as the only answer left available inside our current structure.

                  Let's hear other's proposals.

One more of many on accepted care.
I'll stick to current examples for brevity.
How much has ADHD/ADD diagnoses increased in 10 years.
I don't know myself precisely but have read a doubling.
But I can tell you what the prescribed medication is. Adderall.
I have heard if you need to cram for exams go see a certain dr in Edmonton for a diagnosis and script.

I must have been a bad parent as I did not let my kids have a tattoo until they are 18, never mind the sex modifications we talk about today. Kids make dumb decisions.

Son currently struggling greatly with functioning even inside a greatly reduced online school regimen. Accepted practice is deadlines he can't meet.
I'm not suggesting passing him without accepted knowledge criteria. But he has fallen through every crack in the system. Accepted practice so far doesn't accept him.

Not sure if this screenshot worked.. but even the most progressive countries ( infact, the ones that first started gender affirming care) are taking a step back .. and take a broader view of the whole situation.

As for boys and girls playing together.. yep. Boys and girls play together all the time in various sports.. especially in small towns.
                            Quick question.
If Connor.mcdavid wakes up tomorrow and decides to identify as a woman, should he be able to play in the new ( and pretty fantastic) womens pro hockey league?
Ever notice how the trans women who play in women's leagues are never top of their class in the men's league? Almost like they want to be better at their sport.. it's so strange!

And chuck, for the sanctity of women's sport..this is why they are making these bans. Not attacking the most vulnerable ( which currently makes up what.. less than 0.05% of the Canadian population?) Sorry. Women win and they should be protected. Not the other way around. I like what you did their though comparing high level athletes to little kids playing co Ed. Well done. You are a really douche spinster.. that's for sure.

And as for Alberta Healthcare? I dunno. It's pretty good. Our local hospital is generally a short wait. Is the wait time at st Mary's in Vancouver any better than the royal Alex in downtown Edmonton?
again no fan of Danielle Smith or the ucp.. however , some of what the left has pushed thru here in the guise of protecting the vulnerable has to be questioned in that it may, actually, be CREATING more vulnerable. Is the cure sometimes worse than the disease?

                              Watched some MPs comments.
Such a boiling of tar and rendering of feathers by any other pulpit would've been called out.
But I guess these tactics are universally profitable and today righteousness lays with them.
I still believe we'd all agree on this if in a small room with no cameras.
Nobody's listening or learning and we all lose. Far right or left all the same.
