Not only will we have multiple redundant generation systems to back up the expensive unreliables.
Plus multiple cars in our garage so the grid can borrow from the batteries, and we still have a means of getting to work in the morning if all of the electric cars have been drained over night.
Now we will also need back up generators and propane or wood stoves installed in every building for back up.
Fortunately, all of these things don't have a CO2 footprint...

Saving the world from plant food, one redundancy at a time.

30 years ago when I lived in the city I heated my 3 car garage with waste oil, I built my own stove and not a drop of black smoke came out the chimney, it looked more like heat waves and clear vapour, nobody ever complained or had a clue.

Well we are on second day of virtually no wind electricity generation in Alberta. One of Chuck2’s solutions is to provide power to the grid by drawing power from all the EV batteries. Here is my question, how does the grid operator, in Alberta’s case the AESO, know that your car is plugged in so that it can draw power from it? Would all car chargers have to be tied into a central data base? Could they then decide if power production was down you couldn’t charge your car, therefore be unable to drive that day? Or conversely if your car was charged and you didn’t plug it in could they ticket you for non-compliance? No wonder governments are pushing EV’s, it is all about control.

More conspiracies from Hamloc about control with EVs?

The grid is not set up to do draw from EVs yet. But that is what engineers and planners have been thinking about for future grid design.

Some battery backup is being planned and installed in Alberta to provide more grid stabilization.

The federal government will allow gas plants to backup intermittent renewables.

With all the new gas plants coming on line in Alberta, backup will be just the flip of a switch away.

And renewable capacity and generation can continue to increase and continue to reduce carbon emissions.

With your own solar system you can charge your own EV using a lot of your own electricity.

how logical is that November through end Feb ?
Probably help in summer I guess
