    The Liberal Gravy Train!

Paul Martin and Ralph Goodale are really on a roll! Suddenly they have seen the light, got out the pocket book and are going to turn Canada into a virtual socialist utopia of more spending and lower taxes!
$30 billion dollar tax cut, give the Indians everything they might possibly desire, throw big bucks at the farm, get right with the Kyota program, beef up Medi care, let Sask. keep more of its oil revenue, etc. Why there seems to be something for everybody?
Of course they always slip in that little disclaimer "if we get re-elected"!
I wonder if the Canadian citizen is stupid enough to be bought this time with these "dollar promises" that probably will never materialize?
Remember when the NDP promised the world in Ontario, never thinking they had a snowballs chance of winning? They pretty well broke Ontario trying to live up to all the promises and in the end reality forced them to scrap most of them anyway?
Right now Canada is riding high on energy exports. Check out the figures...that is what is paying the bills. The Liberal promises are not realistic on a long term basis...don't let them buy you with a load of BS!

Problem is that they do NOT have a plan on how to roll out any of the cash so it will be likely half eaten up in paying bureaucrats to devise a method to get the cash where it is intended to go !!

It is truly amazing that in a couple of short weeks they have solved all the problems of the last hundred years! Every special interest group in the country has pretty well been taken care of!
Every group that might have ever been discriminated against has been taken care of...with promises of dollars of course! From the Italians thrown in camps in WW II to the Chinese who were brought over to build the railroad!
If you were an Indian who was sent to school...you deserve a check! If you don't vote Liberal...you won't get it!
This is blatant buying of votes? Nothing more.
I agree that a good part of the money will go to a Liberal beuracracy. Isn't that what really matters in the Liberal Mafia? Skim off the cream and give the crumbs to the dumbies that elected them? And what will change down on the reserves? Nothing.

Unfortunately people vote for the party that promises to give them money, lower their taxes etc., regardless of how underhanded that party is.
No different in municipal politics, promise to pave somebody's road even if the county can't afford it and you can bet on their vote !!!
Honesty, integrity, commons sense decision making etc. aren't what gets people elected.

Or maybe, just maybe, it all comes down to how it is packaged? Ralph Klein won a big one with the "Klein Revolution" which certainly wasn't about passing out the goodies? The So-Cred party of Alberta ruled for decades with a very austere program of fiscal responsibility?
I believe in Alberta you can sell that kind of program and I think Campbell in BC did the same thing?
I think it would be impossible in the Maritimes where they have been on the government tit forever, or in Quebec? They seem to have the attitude that they deserve more and someone else can pay for it! Guess who that is?

perhaps in Alberta some folks or their parents can remember back to when this province was not rolling in dollars and people had to fend for themselves with very little wherewithall to do it.
I am concerned about the current tossing money around campaign that Ralph and crew are on. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the current round of ad hoc spending, and that doesn't make sense.

The Alberta government is acting just like a young roughneck just off the rig with his pocket full of cash! Blow it all...always more where that came from!
Perhaps they should be acting more responsibly and building some infrastructure and putting aside more for a rainy day? Why who knows the day might come when they could live off their investments instead of having to tax the people? Talk about an Alberta advantage!
We have an irresponsible government? Now granted they did get their act together after a fashion when they had the "Klein revolution" but that didn't last all that long? And the fact is Getty had pretty well laid the groundwork of cutting back long before Ralph Klein came on the scene!
Somehow I don't think Jim Dinning will continue letting things go when he gets in, but will put provincial spending back into a more realistic system?
