I wouldn’t say most are natural, most are likely human caused. Just arson is a tiny fraction of human causes.

Just so when the fires start in BC we don’t hear more of that “this seems like a lot all of a sudden. How suspicious” crap.

Snow is gone over a month earlier than last year and a good month earlier than the average. This is probably going to affect irrigation districts but it’s also going to give the BC fire season a likely boost.

People can argue over the cause all they want but it seems things are changing as they will in a dynamic system. Just anecdotal but I believe by observation and talking to people in different parts of the world that things are getting more windy. That might make sense if the climate is getting warmer and holding more energy. This would not be good in drought years, especially if you get consecutive dry years.

Wasn’t the Fort Mcmurray fire also because of a controlled burn?

1980, May 10 was 41 degrees with a big wind. It was so hot and dry that a manure pile spontaneous combusted and our neighbour’s 3-ton truck burnt. That year we never got a rain until July 19. The rain came with 100% hail, not much crop to hail out.

Because of climate change the increased number and severity of fires has doubled the amount of area burned in Canada since the 1970s and it is expected to double again by the end of the century.

And most fires are caused by lightning and humans and not because of arson.

PFRA was started in 1935 for that very reason, but Ritz Cracker with his vast knowledge of farming (ostriches) gutted many of it's programs once he became Ag minister.

He was stupid enough to say farmers don't need trees.

I guess he hadn't seen all the PFRA tree rows across the southern prairies that reduce wind speeds, trap snow, act as wind breaks for cattle and farm yards, increase humidity and improve crop production.
