I am just not sure why some people are so concerned about the impact of renewables on arable land and wildlife but then say nothing about the much more massive impact of biofuels and the millions of acres of arable land used for energy production. Go figure?

Yup they can go on roofs but commercial solar farms are put on the land. Personally if I installed a solar system I would put it on the ground. Angle could then be changed for summer and winter. Not every roof has a south facing surface. Will the roofing material under the solar panel last the 25 years that the solar panel is supposed to last? Biofuels do have residual byproducts that can be efficiently used to feed livestock. Simple question Chuck2 is your solar system a roof mount or a ground mount? I believe you said your system was 25000 installed watts, so over 1000 square feet of panels, I am willing to bet yours is a ground mount. Typical Liberal doesn’t practice what they preach lol!!

Roof mounts here are a big job to keep snow free.
Ground mount the only practical option.
Rural only?

How do you get the power from the panels to the meter if it is say 400yrds Chuck?
Overhead or underground?
110volt wire?

Mine are ground mount fixed angle and cleaning the snow off is usually about a 15 minute job unless it is a heavy wet snow.

I dont remember the wire guage but it is heavy with 3 conductors. Less than 150m. Increase the distance with larger wire.

Ground mount works fine and I have grass around mine.

They take up a small part of our yard and can easily be placed where they are out of the way.

But there are several roof mounts installations around as well.

Adjustable ground mounts would be good cause you could adjust them to the optimal angle throughout the seasons and have less snow issues in the winter. But they cost more.

Large scale ground mount solar systems should not be placed on good quality arable land if there are other choices available. But landowners have every right to do what they want with their land unless you think you want to take that right away?

The oil industry and mining also use good quality arable land. That and the fact that biofuels use millions of acres of good quality land and you are complaining just about solar and wind installations! Take the blinders off.

Yes, for example Farmers should have the right to grow whatever crops they want, and market them through whatever channels they want. The hypocrisy of that statement coming from a CWB die hard is off the charts.
Even more hypocritical, coming from a guy who supports the current federal governments who are attempting to enforce restrictions on fertilizer use and land use.

ive got zero issues with putting it on bad land unarable land.

biofuel crops are still manage and farmed.

solar farms just become waste land basically.

solar farms here to stay just put them in "better" spots
