    Chickpeas under irrigation

Does anyone have experience growing chickpeas under irrigation. If so, could you share your experience as to seeding rate, fertilizer, amount and timing of water application?

The Sask Pulse guide suggests that irrigation during the growing season with chickpeas is not recommended and that irrigation before planting may be useful although an oversupply of water can lead to late crop maturity and possible losses of quality. I know I have heard the suggestion that irrigation during the growing season may increase problems with the disease Ascochyta which is particularly hard on chickpeas. I'm going to consult with some friends and if I find anything useful out, I'll post it here.

The first thing I would ask is why would you want to grow them under irrigation anyway. We have been growing them for three years now and the best years was when it was hot and fairly dry.Chickpeas can source water from a long way down.
