10 million acres of pulses in sk and 1.5 million acres soybeans in mb, thats a lot of nitrogen fertilizer that wont be needed.

MBGrower, Yup... and also phos and K... Really felt it with how little fert we hauled all winter (commercially). Probably down a good 40%.


Here's an indicator... CPS' Elstow terminal, from Feb to April usually has 12 to 20 trucks sitting overnight for a morning load. This year, there's 0 to 2.

While we are on this slippery slope, rotations could be regulated for crop insurance eligibility as well to combat clubroot and other diseases.

It may not be fair to dictate what an individual can grow but a program that guarantees profitability growing (non-tradional) crops in areas where they wouldn't stand a chance of being profitable is just flawed.

I would assume this "odds of being successful" would be built into the crop insurance premium and coverage (if non-traditional crop is grown without a yield history).

Just an assumption though??

AJL - did SW Sask get much of this ?
My guess is that it got very little and the opposite situation may occur. The dry areas are still dry and the wet areas were still snow covered and have received the bulk of this slop the past two days.
Peas could be in trouble in wet ground if it stays cool into seeding in these areas - a slight switch to more canola may be in the cards away from "extra" peas or lentils for that matter. Cool wet ground could spell a pulse wreck here with root rots in pulses. Long way till mid May but the set up has started.
I feel there is going to be a very sharp contrast in soil moisture through May .
