    New oilseed for biodiesel provides Alberta & Saskatchewan growers profit opportunity

    Lethbridge, Alberta – (AgPR) – October 5, 2007 – Farmers will have the opportunity to learn more about growing camelina, a biodiesel oil seed crop, from experienced producers, seedsman Ryan Mercer and Certified Crop Advisor Dan Kusalik at a series of workshops across southern Alberta and Saskatchewan next week.

    Camelina is frost tolerant and may be planted right now, in the fall, through early spring. Great Plains – The Camelina Company will be discussing grower contracts at the meetings. Experienced and new growers are encouraged to bring interested neighbors with them to the workshop. Call Kusalik for more information at 250-428-9317.

    Camelina Grower Workshop Date, Time and Location – Alberta & Saskatchewan

    Lethbridge on Tuesday, October 9th from 10 a.m. – noon downstairs at Sven Ericksen’s restaurant, 1715 Mayor Magrath Drive South. Beef on a bun will be served.

    Medicine Hat on Wednesday, October 10th from 10 a.m. – noon at Holiday Inn Express on the Trans Canada East. Beef on a bun will be served.

    Leader on Wednesday, October 10th from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Rattler’s Café on Highway 21 & 32. Pie and coffee will be served.

    Swift Current on Thursday, October 11th from 10 a.m. - noon at the K – Motel on North Service Road. Pizza will be served.

    Weyburn on Thursday, October 11th from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Captain’s Table at112 Railway. Pie and coffee will be served.
