While prices for most legume crops were high, lentils are the exception as globally lentils are in oversupply at the moment with the Australian lentil carryover fat 100,000 tonnes with the 2011 crop expected to be as high as 250,000 tonnes while 2010’s crop was a record national crop at 300,000 tonnes. Pulses are obviously a very important part of any rotation, but growers do have options with chick peas and other crops to spread the risk.
