    Art Manill...Rest in Peace

Activist, and never wavering from his quest for
selling his own grain, Art died last night, his
battle with lung cancer, the 'beast' he called it,
    finally ended.

We had a lengthy conversation last month, and if
I could have wished anything for Art, it would be
for him to have experienced marketing freedom.

My grandfather came to this country in 1908 and homesteaded on a half section that I own today. My father started farming in 1950 and retired in 1996. The biggest tragedy in all of this CWB mess to me is that an entire generation of farmers which includes my father never got an opportunity to experience marketing freedom. The vow I have made to myself and that I hope to pass on to my son is to never take our new marketing freedom for granted and be forever grateful for those that have fought so hard for this day to finally arrive. I sincerely thank you all.

This afternoon, Art was referred to as a "wheat
Warrior" and I found it so fitting. He considered
property rights the cornerstone of freedom and
never lost sight of their importance. A devout
Catholic. A focused, tenacious, totally fearless
          leader.
and supporter of the Farmers for Justice, Art
          entered countless courtrooms defending
          marketing choice. Pars

Too bad. I picked Art up pn the highway near
Sedley one autumn day about 10 years ago.
Broken down half ton. He was one of the troop.
God rest his soul, but not his spirit.

McMechan, where is he now? I wonder if there
are 8 empty jail cells for the goon gang?

                    God Bless you Art,

As you make your way to the other side,

You had a great big heart,

And a caring spirit a mile wide!

Our sympathies are with his family... Art fought the good fight!
