    shank mounted packers

    Does anyone have any opinions on shank mounted packers, good or bad.

    We use shank mounted packers on both of our zero till air seeders.

    Slow speed seeding is the key to making these units work properly, usually under 5mph.

    If faster speeds are used, or if soil disturbance is high, then the soil will flow over into seed rows that were packed near the front of the seeding tool, and much of the benefit can be lost.

    Baler twine is a big problem, as it wraps around the bearings on these small wheels.

      Thanks for the reply, I've been told that in wet soils there's a problem with plugging. Just wondering if you've experienced any problem's with this.
