    older valmar questions

I have started using liquid avadex after canola and am happy with the performance but the soil prep makes me nervous about erosion and I am thinking about switching to granular where I can leave some trash? High rainfall area and conventional tillage (I have time and minions)

I only use 200 acres a year and looking at older pull type granular applicators. Are parts still available? Other than meter wheels and frame cracks what are the weak points?

    Thanks

We have a 240. I believe most parts are available except the venturis. Treat them very gently when changing a hose. The new ones are larger.

The hose is something that you need to look for. Find a Salford dealer and put them on speed dial. Going to need to do some work on our gearbox this year. Parts should be available as it is still in use on newer machines.

A fellow on facebook suggested using my drill with openers out of the ground. I have a morris 7180 and it is accurate on canola at 3.5 lbs but would there be concerns with bridging? Or is that an auger system problem?

You would likely have to make some deflectors to make sure you get the spread and don't have misses.

Our old Morris drills never cleaned right out. Likely 3 or 4 small bags left in the bottom unless you keep climbing in.

Neighbor used a tbt bourgault hooked up to a heavy harrow to put on edge. Popped 3 or 4 minis in and away he went.
