    grain carts

which grain carts do people like the best and why? Also why do you have them? Do they really pay to have instead of buying another truck?

We bought a grain cart last year because we were too wet to take trucks and trailers into the fields. we took off a couple quarters by driving to the road to dump but the combine is only about 50% efficient then. We bought an Unverferth 8200 850 bus. Should have maybe went to the 950bus so the trailer takes one dump then gone. With a grain cart we found one truck driver can haul with two trucks and keep up. It is easier to find a grain cart driver than a truck driver as well. The unverferth like the Brent and some others have corner augers, the cart cleans out well, but does not give much room for error when loading trucks. We ran into the stacks on the trucks a coule times where as a turret auger would not have. We have a tractor with a PTO but if you neeed a hydraulic drive Unverferth has an neet outfit, it takes flow from two sets of hydaulic couplers to run the auger. A scale would have been really handy.

Unloading on the go with a powershift tractor is simple. Don't only think of it as helping the trucks. Two combines & a cart picking up on the go are likely as good as 3 combines stopping to unload. You better check out the auger height because like the other guy said hitting stacks & roll tarps is easy plus judging the angle right when you pull in can be tricky if your auger is barely long enough. You don't want to load the side of a truck you want to load it in the middle.
