I wonder if we'll ever start using the tonnes per hectare measurement.

I'm stuck on bushels per acre.

Only time I use tonnes is when selling.....quantity not price so much. ...convert to $/bu for that.

Pull-type combines.....why would you want to go back? Comfort alone, why crank your neck looking back for hours on end. Capacity. ...if they would build the equivelant of a class 8 or 9, you would need a big tractor. Stick with the self propelled.

Yep, pull types all across western canada in the 80's, nice to see your country having great crops!

Interesting question but I doubt they will take off again.....but going by McFarms combine quotes who knows?
My reason for them not taking off again is you are still racking up the hours on a tractor to combine.

I noticed a neighbour actually bought a 1682 CaseIH this year and used it. Could go in muddy places where his small SP couldn't.

What variety of barley do u grow in Australia?

Nah no way I'm going back just ponedering. Grow a few diff barleys malt and feed types. 3 wheats. 2 canolas Try and sow in blocks of 400 to 600 ha. Aim is to harvest 200 to 300 hectares per day

First combine was 15ft guys have 60 in some parts we run 2 40s

Harvest is close to best ever for about 85% of australia id say.

Best ever canola for me,barley is up there. Best ever lentils for many.

Some guys in areas that average 2t historically are pulling off 6t

I don't think this area would ever go back as everyone is straight cutting most crops now.

Mounting a straight cut header shouldn't be much of a challenge for an engineering student....the macleod harvester had something interesting years ago.

Off topic but with the amount of on farm cleaning because of disease and the grain cos not wanting to step up.....that type of system might be workable now.

Surprised that it didn't take off with the organic guys....take everything off the field to help with weed issues.

Still mostly pull types locally. I switched to go to straight cut and because canola swaths are too big to drive between going back and forth ( since switched to straight cut canola too)
