    JD 9600

Looking at purchasing a 1991 to 1995 JD 9600 combine. Can anybody lend a helpful hand in what I should be looking for as far as problems etc..

buy the newer 9600 if you can, they update little things every year.

I run a 1996 9500,close to 2600 sep. hrs. on it and it is in mint condition.

They had troubles with the walker bearings/blocks,been more than a couple with broken cranks around here. Also have heard people having a few problems with the chopper drive countershaft. As long as these areas are well serviced then they are excellent combines, but as caseman said the newer ones are always have minor upgrades that cure some problems.

Shaker shoes also break, jobbers sell them, must be a reason.

Ours is a good combine, although last year the most important part broke - the AC fan switch - but it was a cheap quick fix.

A related question, can any one combine keep up with two 9600's? How big are the most current machines?

I think it was in 93 that straw walker cranks started to be hardened. Much less wear and less problems

I used to have two 9600's and there is no one combine that can do as much as them especially if you are in heavy straw conditions. If you are still looking, find one with a sunnybrook.
