    Mud on 3310 Packers

This spring we have been having mud build up on the rubber packer wheels of our Bourgault 3310 air drill. The mud on the wheels is not always a consistent thickness - so our seeding depth is changing across the machine and field.
So far we have reduced the tire pressure on the packer wheels to 15 psi and varied the hydraulic pressure from 500-1200 psi without much success.
Is this a problem for anyone else? Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

    Yes this happened to us.

I am assuming it would happen with a regular press drill in the same field, under the same conditions.

We just accepted it and kept on going, but the mud wasn't that thick so it really didn't affect the depth.

There is no way to put sc****rs on the wheels, because they would probably plug up and skid across the field.

We are thinking that maybe going to a narrower tip like 3/4" would help, right now we are using the Bourgault 2" tips.

We also found that we were going too deep and raised it a couple of notches and that seemed to help a bit. We are now at hole #6 for non wheel tracks and #10 for wheel tracks.

Thanks for the reply. We tried seeding a little shallower today and the machine seemed to work better. We have the openers moved to the bottom spot and are seeding lentils with the depth control pin in the No. 4 hole. This gets them about an inch deep.
