Not for potatoes, know a grower looking for lime to put on some saline areas.

Graymont Western Industry is located north of Winnipeg at Faulkner (near SteepRock). They produce many different grades of ground limestone for the feed industry. Not sure if this is the same as what you are looking for, but I know that most feedmills bring it in bulk.

I've heard of putting gypsum on solonetzic soils but never of liming a saline site. What is the rationale/chemistry for doing so??

Brandon city uses lime in their water treatment. Some Carberry potato growers have been using it for a few years. A few of them might be selfish and want to keep it to themselves, but I picked a bit up a couple years ago. That feedlot just west of Carberry on the old #1 stockpiled it. Dale Gabler was the trucker who hauled it from Brandon, if I remember right. Assiboine injectors from Rathwell applied/applies it.

I'm impressed that you're trying to fix your problem soils. Do you have high sodium on the exchange?

Saline soils cannot be reclaimed by any chemical amendment, conditioner, or fertilizer. Reclamation of these soils consists of simply applying enough high-quality water to leach the soil thoroughly. ie. irrigation. Correcting saline soils requires salt to be leached out of the soil profile. Liming will do nothing towards correcting your neighbors salinity problem.
