    Seeding speed

Just noticed when seeding that the rear shanks don't close properly, even at 4.5 mph. Consequently those rows don't get packed properly.

We use a Bourgault air drill with wide-ish openers. Is this problem lessened if we use a narrower (knife) opener? Can you seed faster with a narrower opener?

I use 3 inch spoons on all but the last row of shanks...on the last row I just use worn down openers and have hung a 3 ft piece of heavy chain around the shank. It seems to bring a bit of dirt back in before the K-hart packers come along. I have a "poor mans" air drill and it works for me at 5.5 mph.

Harvest Technologies {Atom jet} disk closers mounted on the shanks and cruise at 7 mph.
