    Soybean Harvest Underway

Some early beans are coming off, no yield estimate yet.

The few fields I see around here are only beginning to turn yellow. When were the beans seeded in your area?

Would a frost now shave off the top 25-30% yeild?

Monday night Tuesday morning is a forecast low of zero in the Regina area.

Beans in mb were seeded may 5 - 15 this year. Green beans with a frost next week would cause major yield and quality loss. Most beans around here nearly ripe, light frost wouldnt hurt now. Looks like beans will out yield canola , could run in the mid 50's. And bids are upto $1.50/bu better.

Since you brought up price difference... what is the reason for the soybean premium? Meal as the driver? More fluid functioning market for soybeans versus canola? Bullshit market manipulation of canola by China(Blackleg concerns and dockage issues). Lack of competition for canola in Canada, the crushers are largely the same as the exporters. Someone once said 60 lbs versus 50 lbs per bushel but that wouldn't explain the fact that canola has many times been higher than soybeans.

Although good to see some canola bids "resembling" reality. There is still room for improvement, and will be.

Some straight-cut Canola looks pretty white and whispy around here, looks like seeds are on the ground. Is this a poor year for it with all the rain? Leaving it stand past maturity as not many are trying to take it off high moisture, or what's the scoop? Gotta wonder if our big wet swaths will fare better after they lay there for a month or so. Watching and waiting!

Dont know why beans are a premium to canola. The 50 lbs vs 60 lbs / bu arguement isnt valid as i produce more bushels per acre of beans than canola yet beans are worth more... and input costs are less than 50% of canola. It used to be canola was a premium to beans, but it seems the ugly sister is getting uglier.
