soybeans on dryland in Saskatchewan

Any one have soybeans on dryland in
Saskatchewan?
I think we would be too dry most years in SW
Sask.

I have seen a soybean field a number of
years ago in a year that it did not rain
in August and apparently the yield was
around 14 bu/ac. You need to be able to
count on a rain in Aug in order to get
beans to yield so their potential is
limited in the SW. Looks like all of
Manitoba will be beans in 2013 with the
results I am hearing.

I would think there will still be many more acres of
canola in mb than beans.

We grew a quarter of soybeans in SW Saskatchewan this year. Very easy crop to grow and manage. Our last rain was July 2nd and being a long season crop they could have use another inch of rain in July or August.

They ran just over 20 bu/acre, so it wasn't a total wreck. Seeded them on flax stubble and sprayed them twice with 1 litre of glyphosate.

Was happy enough with them to give them another whirl next year.

320 acres booked for 2013. Looking for one more
quarter. Local yields this year. 25, on 40 acres, 33
on 320 and 30 on 160.

Neighbor had a half section of soybeans seeded a half mile away from our L150 canola. Canola was seeded 10 days earlier. Last rain for the area was July 1. Soybean yield 18bus/acre, Canola yield 38bus/acre. South west/central Sask. Chickpeas 1 mile down the road, 36bus/acre. The net winner Chickpeas hands down.

Grew 80ac of soybeans south of Rosetown. Went
11 bu but had 40 to 100 % hail on them . Monitor
did read 25 at times and hail came at the worst
time possible .Will definitely grow again next year
used 3 apps of glyphosate at a L and field was
weed free . Nice change from lentils and all the
herbicide challenges that they bring . Pulse
industry should take notice as there won't be
lentils in this area if the prices stay low and the
fields stay dirty . Soy would be a nice
replacement.

Anyone grow soy on rolling land with stones? Combine flex header only option?
Just can not see myself able to combine that close to the ground.
