    Crop Production Video: Glenn Wheat

Fusarium has become a massive concern for many wheat growers on the prairies. Fortunately many plant breeders in both Canada and the US are truly focused on providing higher tolerances in new varieties. Many potential agronomic issues can be solved thru plant breeding but the challenge is that it takes time. Plant breeding is not a quick solution but when it does provide benefits the benefits are long lasting. This year Glenn wheat (hard red spring) has been released for commercialization by Canterra Seeds. Bred in North Dakota, this variety has performed quite well in that state showing a high tolerance for fusarium.

At CropWeek I talked to Ron Brand, Sales Manager, Canterra Seeds about the potential of Glenn Wheat and what some of its agronomic strengths are.

Fusarium , scab, tombstone are all the same. They have been on the praries since the mid 70's. First case was in manitoba i belive. Its in all three provinces ab,sk and mb. If you look at how the diseaes enters the plant it should give you alot of tips on how to avoid it if possible. This is not a new dieseas by any, wonder why they took almost 25 years to come up with variety.
