Harvest Progress and results.

We hit the 45% mark late last night, real windy this morning and a rain shower a half hour away. Funny this year lots of fields we arrive at in the dark and finish and are on to the next all in dark. No major break downs (knock on wood).
Results so far are really good.
Peas OK, Durum Phenomenal close to last year. HRS ahead of last year so far but have a few fields that are on lighter ground will drop average. Canola ours doesn't look like a bin breaker but neighbors that are harvesting saying its a nice average crop. We will see in October, hopefully not late October. Custom harvest they haven't started to swath yet so we should be OK.

45 percent done here but I think the area average is much better. Soft wheat yielding great but not much market. Peas 50 ave. but not much market. Canola not started yet but maybe tomorrow must hold for CFCO basis contract. Bins will soon overflow and a 30,000 bu pile will have to made for wheat.

We are at 62%, the local area is similar. Drizzle stopped all today, forecast is poor for the week. Flurries forecast in AB next Saturday. Wheat #1 in the 50's, Barley in 80's, canola in the 40's. Temp rings and bags showing up in fields. Appears to be a bit of carryover farmers are admitting to.

70% last week 75 now. Had to let canola sit a few days. Two break downs back to back and of course on my furthest away land left me with 35 acres done in 2 days.
yields are average. some canola above and some below.

Had one fellow looking to get some custom work done. He was going down the road with his combine then for some reason he made a sudden stop. His son ran into him with the other combine.
Wounder if he went to church yesterday for the words he would have used that day?

Most are 1/2 done or better, some at 25% a few are done. Yeilds are all over the map. Canola anywhere from 25 -65 bus/ac. HRSW under 40 to over 70. Peas same. Lentils were strangly exceptional - bad summer good finish.
Looks like we are done harvesting anything here for a while by the forecast.
Some Liberty growers are very sad/mad - Sample canola due to cleavers - as high as 10-12%. Bayer rep is ready to smash his phone.
About 50% of the canola that froze in the first few days of june should have been reseeded. But that is hindsight now, as the first killing frost is this morning.

Carlyle/Arcola region... mostly flax and canary left.

Yields are variable... but better than expected.

Canola... 30 to 55

Barley.... 60 to 90

Wheat... 40 to 55...( so I am told)

Flax.... 25 to 35...

Peas... 30 to 35.... (didn't freeze!)

The irony is the more frost damage in May and
June, the better the yields.... dry early and best
rains in July.

Parsley called it in the summer... she said it will be
a "good" crop...

I would summarize our crop as good... but not

Long range forecast has highs of only 5-10C and lots of rain chances. It looks like harvest could be over till spring.
