    Dumb question

Has anybody put fertilizer in a normal steel bin with a wood floor?

Would it be such a big deal for one year?

Your enemies would be condensation and moisture leakage. Much more critical with urea.

we did one winter quite a few years ago.

no problems except maybe 5-6 shovels full of crusty urea along the edge

nonetheless I would be wary - we may have just lucked out

Put cat litter around the edge of the bin before loading - almost no crusting what so ever.

I took delivery of some N yesterday and the driver told me that one of his customers got delivery of a Virmeer?? bin with two weeks of order while Weststeel could not provide a bin until April
Spend a little money and get the hopper it will be worth it on your back over the years and when you are pressed for time this spring
          FWIW

I have read this same question on another site, and what is suggested is that you spread some garage floor cleaner first on the floor. Any fert. with sulfer would be a no no.
