    fertilizer logistics

Was noticing on fertilzer buddy's latest vote that about 17% have purchased all of their fertilizer for the upcoming season. More than double that have purchased zero. In our area there are empty sheds at dealers and I'm guessing at best 5% fall applied. Judging from various reports a minimum has been applied from Texas north.

At some point fertilzer must start to move out of the Agriums lots and off the barges to physically be able to produce/supply the required amount by spring. At some point price will become irrelevent and the physical possibilities of getting it in place take priority.

What's your guess as to this date? End of Feb? at most? How fast can these plants produce? I don't know. I do know one of the local dealers feels it would be a really good year to have your product at home before spring.

Any thoughts? And have there been any more prices tossed out?

I would think that the spring fertilizer season will be busy this year and logistics will be a challenge because of the lack of movement in the fall.

I wouldn't read too much into that poll..I doubt most who have bought all their fert are visiting that site and if they are probably aren't too eager to vote.

As for logistics I wouldn't worry too much the only way it will be a problem is if a bunch of areas that are normally staggered start at the same time.

Besides who cares if you can't get N for a couple of days as long as you can find a load of phos you can keep seeding and float on your N after.

I don't think there will be any huge shortage of phos at these prices. Seems to be more guys talking about jumpstart and other feel good products.

I was wondering about that poll myself. At our coffee shop, myself and 4 of the other 5 were 100% before Dec. 31. We're loading bins now and I'm going to feel better knowing it's on my farm rather than waiting to be loaded on a truck that's sitting in a lineup at a plant somewhere.

I still check fertilzier buddy once in a while. I want to know if all the dire scare tactics of the dealers "price increase" are coming to.

2043 unique vistors to Fert Buddy yesterday. Unique is if you go three times - only one is counted.
