And now everyone is up in arms about Trump wanting cheaper Belarus potash.

It costs less than $200 a tonne to put potash into a rail car.

India pays less than Saskatchewan farmers where most are only 100 miles from a potash plant in southern Saskatchewan.

Like him or not, Trump is 100% on the money that Canadian Potash is too expensive. And all the other fertilizer types too. Canadian farmers are screwed by the fertilizer monopoly in this country and we just bend over, wimper softly, and ask for it again and again.

I’ll never forget a conversation I heard a few years ago on the sideline on one of my kids’ sporting events. Two guys talking work/business. One works for K+S. They were talking about different mines being built, taken over, at the time and how they work, costs, etc. The other guy asks the K+S guy what’s the cost of production of that K+S mine, on a per tonne basis based on production. K+S guy replies, “About $82 per tonne.” I was standing about six feet away running a video camera. With out looking at them I said, “What??!!”. He looked over at me and said very slowly, “ You….were….not….supposed….to….hear….that.”

What drives down insane prices? Competition. We need to import potash from Belarus too. That would smarten things up here.
