As of this morning, not only is Kansas wheat futures trading above the Minneapolis wheat price, so is the Chicago exchange.

To me this means the general market does not care about high protein, it discounts it. Yet when I look-up protein spreads at the local elevator they are huge. 30 cent a bushel discount for every half a percentage less than the 13.5% protein base.

Why is this? What am I missing?

Flour yield on winter wheat is higher than spring wheat, end use of winter wheat and yield being down may drive price over spring wheat.

This could be a situation where the speculators are driving the price rather than demand.

More liquidity in SRW and HRW than HRS.

              Things I think about.

American elevator bids are around 8 to 8.10 US for HRW. Works out to 11.17 cdn. Somebody is buying wheat for that price and we are nowhere close to that.

At least farmers can sell directly down there now and capture that.
I wonder what USA merchants are getting on their market place when they sell to end users?
