    First day of harvest

Harvesting hard red spring wheat with a combine. The process includes navigating the field, testing grain moisture, and coordinating with family members to ensure a smooth start to the agricultural cycle

Harvest 2026 is a slow start in southern Palliser Triangle. Thank God for June rains.

Lentils around their traditional growing area here are mainly in the bin. The weedy messes are reminiscent of the first few years in the seventies when a few innovators like Bechard brought them here and neighbours drove by wondering WTH is that?

First - seeded Durum is up to bat now but only the lonely are out there, picking away at ripe patches.
The very odd flax field ( that got baked to a crisp with relentless heat and wind for seven weeks straight), is coming in a month early. It’s a miracle that anything withstood the torture that Mother Nature threw at it, first a June with heavy flooding, only to turn into the Gobi Dessert.

There’s no go hard or go home, a lot are still at the lake.
