Canola is a weed my wife always says, you can’t kill it. I had a field hailed on the 10th of July. There was 2.5 inches of rain with the hail. Today you can’t tell it was hailed. Pioneer P524G.
Friday Crop Report first week of August.

We have 524 G in as well on 300 ac
got hailed eerily the same day , July 10 th
ours was late bolting, not yet flowering
took a beating
Its recovery is much like yours, but completely out of flower now .
could still be decent, and 524 does finish quick on average so time will tell here
1/2 our canola took a beating Its recovering but needs time .
Nervous about the August 28th full moon time period, if we can squeeze past that we should be ok for a decent yield on the hailed stuff
Time will tell

After last years late august hail that ripped over 1/2 our crop , not holding too much hopes and dreams at this point

I had to do another kinda tour Sunday
Went from NB to Spiritwood to Shell Lak , South to
Blaine Lake for family stuff
I just needed to go to Blaine Lake and back but I still like burning fossil fuel once in a while
Crops all decent , earlier the better, late crops are just that , very late much like my west / north trip
pockets of early very good crops , some average maturity, some way too late to make frost
1/3 the number across the board
some canola full flower , some barley ready to swath too wheat ready for pre harvest in 10 days
Some cereals just into full heading
Beauty drive , enormous hay crops
All I can say in NW Sask , in general, above average crops , but 1 frost before Sept 1st and 1/2 the crop fukered

One thing very noticeable in all of NW Sask , especially were they had decent recent rains , disease pressure is extremely noticeable on early seeded crops .
most areas were very wet early that I seen , but not crazy wet like northern 1/2 of central Alberta and eastern Sask
Drown out areas are minimal in the areas I seen ,’but noticeable
Very few burn out patch’s or fields even
a much welcomed turn around from lady year for NW Sask.
Definitely hailed out areas in both drives that simply will be a half a crop if lucky

I seen a lot of the same canola the past week ,in this area with at has a 5-10 percent chance of making a frost here . Hopefully the best for yousOriginally posted by AlbertaFarmer5 View PostDrowned out canola that I had written off a month ago.
Better late than never. Haven't had to deal with frozen canola for a few years.
The pictures are of Liberty link.
The pitiful dekalb Roundup ready in the drown out spots that had quit flowering quite a while ago is now branching out and flowering from the same plants that have big mature pods on them already.
As of today, the Roundup ready on well drained land looks better than the Liberty link under the same conditions. Interesting to see what the final results are.
Anything still flowering in NW Sask is in very serious trouble.
August 28th full moon ….
10% chance of making that one being that late

We have had near 5 years of frost free harvests , spring / early summer total opposite here
time for 6 frost free late growing seasons is minimum, but hopefully not impossible

My guess is 1/2 the crop north of Hwy 16 is at extreme risk of a “normal” frost
Not to be a Debbie downer , just a realistic after 35 years
