Dual Trait canola

Definitely has a big presence now
One thing that came to me from day one was what if you get a late flush in your cereal crops , how does one manage pre harvest ? Swather ?
We currently have a situation that shows the potential problem , although it’s clearfield canola from last year so not concerned at all
That late hail storm last year shelled out 20-40 bushels on the ground . We got a flush last fall , then ran the coulter harrow to bust up pods on ground
Got a good kill this spring but got a late flush again after herbicide. It’s not terrible but will cause harvest issues in the wheat if it can’t be dried down
Just curious what the plan is for dual trait canola if a scenario happens next year like that ?

RR canola is a pain to deal with the next year. Dual trait makes it a pain every year. But nice to spray against.

Ive had this convo with one of the reps....and they said it was specifically bred for kochia areas and that volunteers are becoming a concern for it moving forward.
Not sure why it would be avail in any other locations..but theyll try to sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in a white dress.

We grew it for 2 seasons ( not alot). Was fine. But definitely had volunteer issues down the road last yr..and looks like this yr as well ( was 3 yrs ago on this field of wheat).
its wild how long canola can hangout in a seedbank.

Being specifically bred for Kochia make no sense
Round up does zero to Kochia
spray liberty twice then hit the small real bad areas a third time with Liberty . Kochia gone .

Fellows that are having trouble with clethodim resistant wild oats are the ones using dual trait. I agree Furrow the kochia took three wacks of glufonisate this year at the 1.67 rate. AMS seemed to help, but I dont think it will be long and koshia will be liberty resistant as well. What a vial weed!

Let’s be realistic, Liberty is a contact herbicide, it is not systematic. I would think it would be more difficult for Kochia to build resistance. It doesn’t kill the plant, it does nothing to the root. Simply burns off top growth.

Glufosinate resistant waterhemp has evolved in Illinois. Will it happen with repeated reliance on Liberty for kochia control? Most definitely. Everytime weeds survive multiple applications of herbicide and are able to set seed it creates selection pressure and eventual resistance. Does not matter the mode of action. Its a constant treadmill of cocktails and resistance.

Bayer has a herbicide called Olympus you can tankmix in preseed wheat that nukes Foxtail Barley.
