Simple question, does anyone run a New Holland, Case Ih, or Flexicoil sectional cart with a New Holland or CaseIh 4wd with a single 55 gpm hydraulic pump? Two fans on this cart, maximum hydraulic demand 26 gpm per fan I believe.

Hey hamloc.. whats the number on your cart?
we had a p...4580.
2 fans.
Ran it off a case 435 for a couple yrs no problem. Had it on a ... 2060 drill ( the c shank one) and it wasnt much of a hyrdaulic draw to lift up.. never heard the fans slow down.
that being said... we didnt put big amount out thru the drill. Urea/ phos potash blend that was probably 220 lbs max.. and then peas at 200 lbs/ ac. The 26 gpm fan requirement is when its maxxxxed right out fulll bore. We were never ever close to that.

Our 2011 450 single pump technically has enough gpm for our one fan flexi.
In reality the valving design limitations sends the wrong message to the pump and we get fluctuations and surges on fan when using toolbar circuit. We need 3 headlands or we'll plug in peas.
A second pump alleviates.

Edit. Been a year. Operator needs to slow right down at headlands so as not to hit the fluctuating fan with big shot of peas right off.

What do you use today? Was it an improvement over the 4580?

Hey hamloc...
bare in mind when i say this that the 4580 P tank we had was used...
but it wound up being the absolute worst tank we have ever had. It sucked. When it worked.. the sectional control system was great because it didnt require a bit tractor upgrade with a bigger hyd pump. But the metering system started to wear out ( i guess) ans it was a nightmare. The canola fill system didnt work great...ever.. the tanks didnt have the augers to even out the product so it was always emptying in 1 or 2 spots and leaving stuff behind...
and the engineers who decided that a flap ( pushing up against product no less) would be enough to shutoff flow to tank when one of the meters was plugged and had to be taken RIGHT out...
should be strung up.
We have never been happier to see a piece of equipment to leave the yard. I even took of a pic od my pops ( the main drill operator) smiling as it left in the background.
It was. A great system when it worked ( which was probably when it was brand new)
It worked well In spurts.. but again. Im going to say that it was because of the metering system getting worn out. Atleast i hope. Because if thats how those rigs work on any normal day...i pity the fool.
So. Yes. What we moved to next was/ is better. Even if we wouldve moved to a rusted out 1989 morris with 180 bushel capacity....it probably wouldve been better. Lol
We upgraded everything.. bigger drill and bigger tank. Bourgault 7950 with sectional. Had to upgrade the tractor as well to bigger hydraulic pump.
wont ever look back. Shouldve done it the day we looked at the new holland drill. 3 yrs of our lives we wont ever get back.
i honestly dont remember much ..in the years we had that drill... something something about a pandemic.... some war over in the former USSR area...
But i do remember when the salesman took our new hollland drill off in trade. May 6th. 2021.
best day of my life.
I had a child that yr and this was still better.Last edited by goalieguy847; May 9, 2026, 09:28.

Well Goalieguy that is quite a story. The reason I started this thread was a good friend was looking at a P4580. We have run a P3440 since 2018. When I bought this tank the salesman felt my JD9430 would not have enough hydraulics. 48 gpm total. So I bought a 2014 Versatile with 2 pumps and 110 gpm. We found even with this tractor one fan had to be on each pump. He run a New Holland with a 55 gallon pump.Originally posted by goalieguy847 View PostHey hamloc...

As for issues over time with the cart. The bearing on the electric meter motors which fits into the plastic meter housing generally has to be replaced yearly. I have tried stainless bearings and various brands of regular bearings, little difference. If you don’t replace them frequently the bearing turns in the housing and wears the housing. The original pressure sensors on the meter housing required replacing until they updated the design. They work fine now. Accuracy of product output is a bit of a concern. Output appears to be about 3-5% lower than a calibrated rate. Sectional control works quite well.
