True but they won't end up blaming the rancher for the increase. It's somewhere between when I drop my cattle off at the auction mart and the freezer at the grocery store.

Because at the current pricing , I could do the same logic when a guy factors in the price of a baler , tractor etc.

Ranchers at 65 and older are taking the way out at a high. Others are catching up on required equipment updates.

          Did someone say beef?

We are just catching up from the BSE decade! Too bad we're so old now!

But hay, we are not the bad climate dudes they project us to be. I can rest in peace.

The land used to raise beef cattle in Canada contributes the majority of critical habitat that wildlife need for reproduction and to raise their young (74%) and to find food (55%) when all crop and pastureland is considered. When it comes to habitat for many species in Canada, home is truly on the range.

And a grain farmer cant seed some ground to hay and get any money here at least. Shares be dammed. Tried it ended up the guy i offered a first year alfalfa field watched me work it under it was more profitable for me.

When the cattleman does well, everyone does well.
We put our worst dirt in to annually seeded forage.
Others, it adds a years break from weed resistance issues and disease.
Very happy for the cowman, working well for us.

Smell of hay curing on summer evening lot nicer than 24d spray.

Hedging desk costs maybe go up when you have 30 cent jumps. If they don't have a sale for it, you will pay more for them to buy it.
But yes. We have no idea what freight rates actually are. Nor do we know what's in the pipeline actually sold. Or actually in the pipeline. All these things we do pay for.
We've been warned about burdensome canola all winter. And no, I didn't lock basis either.
We can still create our own artificial basis by rolling spreads. No, something I don't pay someone to do for me, but maybe should.

Don't forget if you did not book fertilizer forward you will also now be paying more freight as it is up over 20% thanks to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz!

Nothing ever ends quickly in the Middle East or ends at all. Just the level of chaos from time to time.
