    Cwrs south central sask

I’m looking for a newer variety of hard red spring wheat, bin run. Starbuck? What are you recommendations?

Ask your local seed grower and then purchase from him.

Deep South.. I’m assuming your south of the [NODE="1"]Home[/NODE] Is durum priced that terrible that the traditional durum areas are going to cwrs. How does cwrs compare yield wise to durum?

A public Ag forum isn't the right place to "advertise" you're looking for bin run seed. I assume there isn't a variety available that isn't covered by plant breeder's rights.

Getting into the top two grades here can be challenging, number three durum is basically the same price as number one wheat here. Yeild gap has closed, may not be equal. CWRS is easier, here.

As others have said, its far better to buy certified seed than looking for some guys bin run. I know lots of guys that buy new seed every year. The way they see it , after deducting the grain cost, then the cleaning cost, and the hassle of doing the job its not a stretch to buy new seed. There are a lot of new varieties that have merit. A seed grower close to you would have a pretty good idea what's best. Its one thing to use a little neighbor's seed to finish off and quite another to see him as a seed source. There really isn't much in the way of "Common" seed anymore.

Starbuck is a midge variety and you can't legally keep your own grown seed for more than 1 generation and it sure as heck is illegal to sell it as seed. This is for protecting the genetics to keep it midge tolerant. considering something like this and posting on a public forum isn't a good look. The sask government publication of seed varieties will give you very good guidance based on your location and reasons to used pedigreed seed.

Yes, as said, it has been very hard to grow good quality durum for an extended time due to the drought. Also scic wheat coverage is basically the same as my durum but $7.25 for wheat and $19.75 for durum. I have 3 varieties of durum and no wheat.
