All this highlights is some people that say they represent farmers at the federal level have not been paying attention to what is said in meetings . Or they are not asking the right questions.

Everyone should have known Carney was going to cut when he started talking about operational vs investing budgets.

Sadly he cant see that these facilities are investments.

But maybe no one pointed that out to him or the bureaucrats.

The frustrating thing about these announcements is that the MPs gave themselves another raise.

        338 x 8000 = 2,704,000 just for MPs
        ministers wages are up 13000.

That's over 10 million over 5 years and they only worked 76 days in 2025.

          Today's National Post

Jamie Sarkonak: Carney's shutdown of federal agriculture research is an attack on food security

          Great read

I think it's time we all contact our local MP, this can not be done without a fight from all of us as it effect all Canadian Ag.

It's shameful to say the least.

Maybe the Liberals should stop the overly excessive overseas spending , like the grift to Freeland / Ukraine and money for woke ideals in third world countries and keep funding at home for federal agriculture research …..
            Just a thought

And how is that going to enrich themselves and their donors?

My opinion on the research centres are they should be considered as investments on the federal budget. As they deal with the future of crops and or animals we grow.

Instead the Minister of Ag has rubber stamped the cuts. So it highlights how much he cares.

But to be fair there are a lot of farm organization and reps that must be not listening or don't care either. You can include conservative MPs in that as well as they started the process years ago.

MPs have had 8 weeks off to inform constituents about issues like this. Instead of holidaying maybe they should have been in touch with bureaucrats.

MPs can give themselves a raise for doing SFA for 280 days of the year but expect the heavy lifting to be done by voters or constituents when SHTF.

Same goes for any farm group that takes checkoff $$$$. Dogphhuckers all of them.

Not exactly, did you read the article?

"On Tuesday, Dennis Laycraft, a vice-president of the Canadian Cattle Association, told the Commons agriculture committee that the closure of the Lacombe facility is “a huge loss for our country.”"

"Conservative MP Richard Bragdon pushed for an emergency study on the closures in the Commons agriculture study, and the party’s agriculture critic, MP John Barlow, accused the government of “dismantling the foundations of Canada’s ability to feed itself.” If enough people make this into a political problem, perhaps resistance will prevail."

Moe, Danielle, and Wab are meeting with Carney today maybe one of them will bring it up.
